On October 5, 2016, the first Divine Liturgy before the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God “of the Sign” was celebrated at St Theodore Cathedral in the city of Saransk, Russia. Officiating was His Eminence Metropolitan Zinovy of Saransk and Moldovia and the icon’s caretaker, His Grace Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan, Deputy Secretary of the Synod of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia.

The hierarchs were joined in the service by Protopriest Aleksey Seleznev, Secretary of the Saransk Diocesan Administration, the deans of the diocese and members of the ROCOR delegation accompanying the icon.

At the end of Liturgy, the two bishops delivered sermons to the worshipers who came to venerate and pray before the holy image of the Mother of God.
